My Students

My students attend a public elementary school on the west side of Chicago, where 100% of our students come from low income households. These students often don't have the resources to use technology at home, and many do not have home access to the internet. For this reason, it is important that students can utilize technology in the classroom in a variety of positive and proactive ways.

My students love to use the computers to play learning games and also to conduct research on science topics.

This year we conducted research life cycles, and even created videos of plant and butterfly life cycles for our class YouTube channel!

My Project

Our students utilize technology in the classroom in a variety of ways. Our class was lucky enough to receive a class set of Chromebooks in 2013, but as our school community has gone through some changes, our class sizes have fluctuated. Next year, class sizes are expected to increase to 30+ students per class. Since our class set was not meant for that many students, we are looking to round out our set to see that each student can continue to have their own assigned Chromebook to complete in-class assignments.

We use these computers to type and share essays on Google Drive, to research science and social studies topics and to create videos and slideshows to show what we've learned.

We have even made some videos for our class YouTube channel!
