Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I remember being 4 years old and not knowing what was beyond the park I played in---my students have a wide world that they are beginning to explore, and I want to give them the opportunity to do so, whether in a microscope slide, with a talking globe, or printing and scanning pictures of symbols.

My students represent many diverse cultures, religions, and socio-economic backgrounds.

They are eager to learn, and quickly make connections between subject areas, applying new information. Their school is in the big city, and, for many, the idea of a big, wide world, or a microscopic one on the surface of a slide is foreign to them. I want to bring to them the opportunity to become explorers, asking questions and seeking the answers, with the tools I provide. To this end, a study of symbols and a working printer will engage them in noticing things around them as representational. I want them to be able to see the world through different eyes, and to create compilations of their findings to better make sense of the world.

My Project

With the addition of the printer, memory cards, and microscope and globe, students can become empowered to ignite their own interest in the world around them, and to follow through via the scientific method and reasoning skills to develop their comprehension of their place in the universe.

I want my students to have opportunities which I have always wanted for my students---to explore, document, and apply what they have learned by using tools which they will be able to use independently.
