This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing first graders at a bilingual school in the greater Mac Arthur Park, Los Angeles area. While they are from an under resourced, densely populated community, they belong to a school community that works with its families to address economic and social needs.
My first graders are working toward becoming global citizens that are biliterate, bicultural, critical thinkers, and independent problem solvers who are agents of social justice.
My kiddos love to learn! They do so by staying curious and engaging academic conversations. We love to do a lot of exploring and hands on activities through small group work.
My Project
Students learn best through instruction that is targeted specifically for them. For this reason, we incorporate a lot of small group activities throughout the day. I group students with similar needs and push them at the level of instructional rigor they are ready for. In order to make this time successful, students who are not a part of a small group work with the teacher must be actively engaged in their independent work or small group center.
Help us incorporate technology in the classroom to create an engaging small group center!
Laptop computers are an excellent resource in the classroom that allow students to have access to a number of educational resources including games and literacy related websites.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
