My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/ high poverty school district, my students are dealing with many challenges on a daily basis. I am looking to provide a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment for my students. My students are energetic, explorers, and they love to manipulate various toys in the classroom. I would love to be able to introduce my students various materials within the classroom, so they can be exposed to new things.
I’m reaching out to DonorsChoose.org because many of my students come from both single parent households; as well as households in which the parents work and some parents don’t work.
Many of my students don’t get the same opportunities that other students may have, due to their socioeconomic status. Often times students' home environments can hinder them from excelling and reaching his or her true potential. When students enter into my classroom I want them to know their self-worth by being confident, independent, and educated. I know that as an educator and partnering with DonorsChoose.org, we can change the way children view themselves, life, and learning. When children know someone values who they are, then they will want to excel.
My Project
The tablets will be used in my classroom during both small group time as well as for choice time. Students will use the tablets in small groups so they will learn how to navigate and use a tablet. Students will use the tablets during choice to use various reading and math sites, so they will be exposed to early literacy as well as basic math. The world is technology driven, so my students will have the opportunity to learn how to manipulate a tablet. When students use tablets in the classroom, it allows them to take ownership of their learning.
