This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever had a problem with your technology and had a child figure it out? In this day and age, children are exposed to technology as soon as they can crawl. My students need to be exposed to the technology available in the real world.
I have 22 wonderful boys and girls in my class.
I have a combination of 3 and 4 year olds in my class. They are a group of energetic and very inquisitive Texans. We are at an elementary school that serves over 700+ PK through 5th grade students. We have a 91% free and reduced lunch rate and are a Title I school. When I surveyed my parents many of them do not have desktops at home and the ones who do have one do not allow my students to use them.
My Project
My classroom at this point does not have working desktops. We have a listening center with a boom box that sometimes has bad days and decides not to work. If we are given the tablets, tablet covers, the MP3 players, and the headphones my students would be able to sit anywhere they want in the classroom to work. My little ones would not be restricted to a certain area or chair to learn their alphabet and sing their phonics song. The educational websites that they visit once a week for enrichment during computer class would now be available in their classroom everyday. If you have finished your assignment grab a tablet and keep on learning! My students would be "set up" but in a positive way for a future with technology. It is very rare for any of the students I recieve to actually know how to work a computer. In my classroom they would learn how to use a tablet, a desktop (as soon as they get fixed) and an MP3 player.
Many of my students have never even touched a desktop let alone a tablet or an MP3 player.
Having these resources in my classroom would allow me to teach them how to use the technology they will need in the future. My students will have a great foundation for their future professional careers. I believe this donation will inspire my students and my parents. I believe if the parents see that my students can properly care and use these devices maybe they will recieve them as gifts later on.
