My students need a digital camera, a photo printer, a camcorder, a webcam, and an MP3 player to help them internalize learning and learn to use technology.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
They say a picture is worth a thousand words... I hope to make millions of words each year!
My students come from a low income background.
They do not see and do many of the things many of us take for granted each day. My kids come in telling stories that pull on your heart and make you want to take them home and just love them forever. My students have seen and heard things in their homes and neighborhoods that many of us will never see in our lives. These kids are dealing with drugs, sex, violence and in some cases abuse. We are a public school that has very dedicated teachers. These teachers will do whatever it takes to help the students be successful. The students want to learn and be smart for many different reasons, although they will not always tell or show you. Our kids are street smart and some are already learning that if you want it done you do it yourself. My 5 year olds are sometimes the ones responsible for dinner in their houses and are taking care of little ones. They live the lives many of us have only heard about on the news.
My Project
I am asking for some technology to help students learn new skills that will help them in the future and to make their learning more fun and personal. I am requesting a digital camera and photo printer, a digital camcorder, a webcam and a MP3 player. If my students were able to see themselves doing different things and were able to look back at those times or share those experiences with others I know their learning would be more meaningful to them. When students have a purpose, they tend to be more successful. I dream of a classroom where students can show off what they know by recording it or taking pictures. My kids love sharing their new knowledge with their parents (many of whom have the same background they kids do). The MP3 player would help my kids to have more music and movement in their lives and to be able to record themselves reading or rapping a lesson. My kids need to have their learning be personal to them
It would mean the world to both the students and the parents to show them what the kids are doing and learning instead of telling them.
Technology is everywhere in the world today and teaching these kids the skills now will not only help them with learning now, but also with jobs in the future.
