Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It is 2012! But our classroom portrays the 1990's! My students need to be learning in a technology-rich environment so that they may acquire the necessary skills to compete in this ever-advancing technological world.
My second grade students come from various backgrounds.
Most speak English as their second language, and many do not have the resources for owning a computer at home. I try to create a classroom environment that is fun and engaging. My students LOVE learning about and using computers and technology, but we only have 1.5 in our classroom! I say 1.5 because our 2nd computer is an absolute dinosaur and is not up-to-date enough to access the necessary educational sites my students need.
My Project
If my students had more advanced laptops in class, they would have easier access to the Internet for researching projects. They would be able to use the technology components of our language arts, math, and science programs to practice their skills and deepen their understanding of the learning. Also, the first set of chair slides we received are fantastic, however, they only supplied 20 chairs. I have 24 students plus other chairs in the computer center and other areas in class. Having another set of chair slides to cover ALL our chairs would greatly reduce the noise, creating a quieter environment for study, small groups, and keep the floors shiny and welcoming! (Even though chair slides are not instructional materials, they help teach my students to be responsible and take care of the environment they use.)
Best of all, if I can put more technology into the hands of my students at this young age, they will be more likely to get "hooked" and have greater opportunities to advance in technology and science programs and careers in the future.
Kids "playing" with computers and technology today will lead to the next amazing computer science breakthrough tomorrow. Please help my students even the playing field and be able to compete in this world of information technology!
