My students are Specific Learning Disabled, Emotionally Behavioral Disturbed and Intellectually Disabled (ESE).
The school is located in a low socio-economic area. The school is equipped with very few computers and the computers that we do have are outdated dinosaurs that run extremely slow and most do not work at all!
My students have a limited number of computers in the classroom that they fight to get an opportunity to use. Only two of the twelve students in my class have a computer at home. They fight for the use of the one iPad that they share within the classroom.
My Project
Students will use computers to access textbooks, surf the Internet to conduct research and complete assignments. This resource will be greatly appreciated, as it will allow students that do not have computers at home to interact with the super information highway to complete classwork as well as home learning assignments and projects.
With this being the age of technology, computers are a necessary aid to classroom instruction. Students that are not able to write, are able to use the computer as a word processing device. Research for projects is more comprehensive, creative, colorful and informative. Also, computers in the classroom help to differentiate instruction. Students are able to access information on a variety of topics on their instructional as well as independent levels. Computer time will also be offered as a reward. Needless to say, student behavior has increased positively because of their desire to use technology.
Students will use computers to complete class projects, access online Reading programs and textbooks, as well as a reward and to complete learning activities.
"Technology -rich schools report higher attendance and lower dropout rates than in the past." Students are found to be challenged, engaged, and more independent when using technology. Donations to this project will improve my classroom by, increasing students' motivation, achievement and preparation for the outside world.
