My students need Chromebooks to access online assessments and adequately prepare them as 21st century learners.

My Students
Even though my students are eager to learn and they do very well on their work, there is a need to improve our standardized test scores. However, without the proper technology, it is difficult to prepare them for the digital tests they will take that meet the Common Core State Standards.
There are twenty-four students in our classroom.
There are first, second, and third grade students. Having multiple grade levels in the same classroom is advantageous in meeting the individual needs of each student. Each student has an individualized lesson plan which enables them to grow and exceed at their own pace. There are many opportunities for students to participate in peer tutoring which reinforces the lessons they have learned. With over 50% of the student population on free or reduced lunch, there is a need for outside funding to increase technology for our students.
My Project
In our class we have first, second, and third grade students. We use the Montessori philosophy to build concrete knowledge and teach lifelong learning skills. The third grade students are preparing to take the standardized tests this year. Fortunately, there are excellent programs available to use during instruction that will prepare them for these digital tests. However, with limited technology it is difficult to provide adequate time for students on the programs.
Currently, there are only three Chromebooks available for a class of twenty-four students. Expanding the technology will not only prepare the students for testing, but will also build research skills, online collaboration, and digital citizenship.
I know that with adequate resources, my students will be able to develop digital literacy skills that are not only necessary in the classroom, but are required life skills.
By using technology, students will receive the instruction they need to use the Internet responsibly, conduct research, share learning in online communities, improve writing and typing skills, prepare for standardized tests, and develop the skills necessary for jobs and lifelong learning.
