Help me give my students individual devices to support in-person and distance learning! COVID-19 has put an end to sharing the technology my students use to fully engage in class lessons.
I am so fortunate to work with a group of students who are unique and special in many different ways. I work with special needs students in kindergarten through second grade. All of my students require full-time special education support in order to help increase their skills in each area of development. Most of my students are nonverbal and have behavior challenges. We have been physically out of school since March 12, 2020. We left our building on that Thursday not realizing that we would not be returning for the rest of the year. My students have worked so hard to adjust to distance learning. We are located in a public, inner-city school, in a high-poverty neighborhood, where students receive free breakfast and lunch every day. My goal is to create engaging activities that meet the unique needs of all of my students while allowing flexibility to accommodate for the uncertainties of the upcoming school year. Thank you for taking the time to learn about the amazing students who I work with!
My Project
My students require engaging activities to keep them interested and motivated to learn. I am so lucky to have my students for multiple years. This year, several new students will be joining our classroom family. Because of the new students I will be gaining, I will no longer have enough iPads for all of my students, and due to COVID-19 related restrictions, students will not be able to share their devices. All of my students are special needs and many are nonverbal. Technology makes it possible to meet my students' unique learning needs and promotes effective communication. My goal is to increase our classroom technology so that all of my students have their own device and can continue using the materials they are used to. Not only will these iPads help to ensure that all of my students are given the opportunity to fully engage in classroom lessons, but they will also help my students participate in the distance learning portion of our district's "hybrid model". My hope is that providing each of my students with familiar materials will help make the transition to our "new normal" a little easier.
I am also asking for protective cases to make sure that these iPads last as long as possible, and headphones to help my students maintain attention.
Thank you so much for considering donating to my project! My students and I appreciate it more than you know!
