This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”~Benjamin Franklin.
In such a technologically advanced society, the demands on public elementary education students continue to increase. As an elementary educator, it is my goal for my students to meet those challenges.
I am a teacher in a Title 1 school.
My students are in third grade in the gifted program. They are inquisitive and their brains are like sponges, thirsty for knowledge. They love finding out answers to questions such as, "What does the 2 represent in H2O?" Their enthusiasm is contagious and you can't help but to be enthusiastic, too.
My Project
One of the biggest goals in our school system is the use of technology in the classroom. Unfortunately, there are only four computers in my classroom. If I'm lucky, they are all working at the same time. I would love to integrate research skills and project based learning into my instruction using tablets during small groups. The problem is, I can't depend on the classroom computers because students are required to complete district mandated reading and math computer programs, which leaves very little time for enrichment activities such as researching and project based learning.
I feel that improving my students' research skills through the use of additional technology will not only benefit them now, but in future grades, as well as throughout their lives in order to compete in today's society.
