Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from diverse backgrounds and cultures. They are primarily newcomers with little to no English and varying skill levels. Many of them have significant gaps in their education and require a lot of support to catch up to their peers. Being in an inner-city, they are often exposed to difficult situations at home and in their community as well. Each student brings a unique background and set of experiences to the classroom.

Although they may face great adversity, they are extremely energetic and eager to learn.

They come to school each day, despite the challenges they face. They have made tremendous growth and continue to reach for their dreams. They have shown me the meaning of resilience, and I continue to be amazed by all that they are able to accomplish.

My Project

In March, the world of education was unexpectedly flipped upside down when school buildings closed and teachers scrambled to adapt to teaching from home. This fall, our district has announced a remote start due to rising COVID cases, and I want to be as prepared as possible to give my students a robust learning experience. The document camera will allow me to do so many things, from modeling writing, to marking up words in a phonics lessons, to displaying pages of books during read alouds. The drawing tablet will allow me to better annotate when I am screen sharing during live lessons.

My students are English Language Learners in an inner city, and these tools will help provide them with as close to an in-person experience as I can give them.

When we finally return to in-person teaching, I will move these items to my classroom, where they will continue to provide support to all of my small groups.
