Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The majority of my students come from low income families who do not have technology at home. This puts my students at a disadvantage when it comes to academics as they enter the 21st Century. Currently I have two IMac computers that are 7-10 years old.
This year I have a very bright group of students who are eager to learn.
The majority of students are classified ELL, and receive free lunch due to their families being low income. We are working very hard at meeting Benchmarks in Reading and in Math.
My Project
If my students were to get a new computer it would give them an opportunity to learn about new things they have never experienced before. I could use the computer to teach students things that are associated with our Reading, Math, and Science programs. It would also be a tool that they could use to surf the Internet, and to play games to become stronger in addition, subtraction, phonics, and reading. Learning to use a computer for most Middle Income families happens all of the time, but for my students they rarely get the opportunity since their families can not afford to have one at home. This computer would also allow me to do PowerPoint presentations in my classroom to enhance learning.
I want my students to feel comfortable using a computer.
Many of the State and National tests are now taken on a computer by 2nd Grade and beyond. If you have little to no experience using a computer, taking a test can be very difficult. It would be great if my students had the opportunity to use a computer on a weekly basis where I could monitor many different things. School Districts who have unlimited resources have these opportunities, but for my students it is still a dream.
