This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my classroom come from differing backgrounds, but all of them bring a unique personality to our community of learners. My students come from low-income/high poverty homes and with that comes different challenges. As their teacher, it is my duty to provide the safest and warmest environment for them to have their best opportunity for learning. My students need me to be more than just their teacher. Sometimes I'm a nurse, counselor, friend, mom, or superhero, and with that, I strive to help my students in any way possible.
My Project
My school recently purchased brand new Chromebooks with the help of a SIG (Student Improvement Grant) and now my classroom is very fortunate to be 1:1 student-Chromebook ratio. Unfortunately we did not get headphones with those new Chromebooks, and all of the learning programs the students use need sound. It is very hard not only for the students to understand what is happening on their computer, but also for me as the teacher to pull small groups when they're working on the computers.
These headphones will allow us to use these new Chromebooks to their full ability.
Our district and school provide us with several data-driven, educational programs for the students to use on the computer. I want to give my students the opportunity to use them at school as most of them do not have the ability to do so at home. By having the headphones I would be able to incorporate more stations during our reading and math block without the disruption of other students' independent learning or my small group time.
