This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"We need technology in every classroom and in every student's hand. It is the pen and paper of our time!" - Author Unknown - Technology drives everything! From the time we wake up to when we fall asleep, we use it everyday! So, why should it take a backseat when it comes to learning in the classroom?
My students are 21st Century learners who love to use all of the technology available to them!
I teach 24 curious, natural born third grade scientists in a small Title 1 school that has an amazing and supportive principal. My students are eager to learn and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them. Everything is a potential investigation/experiment to them so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project-based opportunities as possible. I constantly enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEM correlations whenever possible. Because of our size, funding levels are not as high as other schools in our area so grants become an integral part of how I obtain materials to supplement learning experiences. Our school has made a commitment to increase technology into our classrooms but can only provide what budget numbers allow.
My Project
In an ideal classroom, every student would have access to their own device so they could conduct research, practice learning concepts and create presentations and projects. I am on a mission to make this dream a reality! In my classroom, students are always involved in project-based learning and STEM projects and opportunities where being able to research concepts and ideas is key. The iPad and computers requested in this proposal will provide additional devices for my students to use to accomplish their learning goals. Wait time to use the limited technology currently in my classroom would be cut in half, and projects will be completed in record time! In addition, my students will learn how to use the devices to make movies, video presentations and record progress during science and math investigations and experiments. What a multiple resource this additional technology will be in our room!
The addition of these two Lenovo laptops and the Apple iPad Pro, in my classroom will allow my students to have the access they need to become technologically literate.
Many of my students do not have the financial resources for them to have their own devices at home. This grant will provide an equal opportunity for all my students to succeed and level the digital divide. Thank you for your consideration.
