This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 26 first graders in an inner city TITLE I school. All of the children are excited to learn, but their levels of ability vary greatly. My students are very excited to have the opportunity to use the two desktop computers in the classroom. They learn a lot on the many educational web-sites that are available.
Since I have a large class with such different learning abilities, a laptop would provide the opportunity for an additional child to access the computer at any given time. Educational web-sites are readily available at all skill levels. The laptop would also allow the class to make use of the SMART board at school. The SMART board is interactive and can make any lesson "come alive".
An HP laptop computer will give children who do not have a computer at home the opportunity to access one at school. Using a laptop will give my students a sense of independence. For example, our class can access a new on-line Weekly Reader on the laptop.
Your generosity will allow my class to have science, math and other lessons using a SMART board. The children will be able to access the computer a lot more frequently than they do now. Lessons will be more engaging with the use of technology!
