Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach kindergarten in a very poor community in Illinois. The school population consists mostly of Hispanics and African-Americans. However, my classroom is mostly Hispanic non-English speakers.
My kindergarten classroom's technology consists of two very old and slow computers, two donated leapfrog pads, and one cassette player. All kindergarten students come at different learning levels, some have attended pre-K and know their ABC's, most students know little or no English, and some have never been in a classroom before. I try to meet all their needs by providing centers focused on their individual needs. The technology provided by school is not enough to meet their needs.
In order for me to provide an engaging listening center in which each student will practice reading fluency, and learn at his/her own pace I will need: a personal CD player, books at the students' levels, and CD's.
You will provide my students with a learning tool in which they will hear and learn the English language as it is read and spoken, which in effect will make it easier for them to learn at the same level as the native English speaker's level.
