This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When a teacher from another school is shocked to find out that I don't have a projector or document camera in my classroom, I feel like my class is behind their peers and not getting equitable access to the same curriculum. We are in need of our very first LCD projector and document camera.

I teach fabulous 4th graders who are eager and hard working students.

They love learning about new things every day. My students are all English language learners. Our school is located in a low socioeconomic urban neighborhood. All of the students at our school receive free lunch. Our school has only enough funds to buy basic school supplies (pencils and paper) for our classrooms. My colleagues and I end up spending a lot of our own money for other necessities we need for our classrooms.

My Project

We are very behind in technology in this 21st century digital world. A projector and document reader would allow my students to engage in enhanced instructional lessons. The language arts, mathematics, and social studies curriculum all have digitally enhanced lessons via the computer with movies, songs, and animations. Our classroom has two computers, it is impossible to show any of these enhanced lessons with all the 27 students crowded around the small screens. In addition, as second language learners, my students need the extra visual scaffold to help them master what they are learning. I will be able provide visual models for the students. For example, in a vocabulary words lesson, I would be able to pull up images from the Internet or a book to show the word's meaning and project it to show the class. I would not have to waste paper and ink by printing out individual pictures for each word. A projector and document reader would bring what the students are learning to life.

While other classes are in need of replacing theirs,we are in need of our very first projector and document reader.

A projector and document reader will open the door to more engaging visual lessons to help my students reach all their learning goals.
