My Students
Communication is everything. Imagine if you couldn't be understood. What if your friends avoided talking to you because of your speech. How would you feel?
I work with students who are working on overcoming communication barriers hindering their ability to be successful in the classroom.
I work with 70 students ranging in age from 3-12 in an elementary school setting.
As a speech language pathologist I help students with articulation disorders, speech fluency (stuttering) disorders, expressive and receptive language difficulties. I also work with students with Autism, students who are non-verbal who require augmentative and alternative communication methods, and students who are barely learning simple basic cause and effect concepts. Some of my students only have mild difficulties and many of my students have severe communication impairments. Their communication impairments effect their ability to talk to their teachers, to read and write in class, as well as their ability to socialize with their peers.
My Project
One thing that all of my students have in common is that they love technology. They learn without even realizing that they are learning with technology. The iPad has literally millions of apps to choose from with an amazing selection of speech language therapy material. Enriching language and articulation apps challenge and excite students. Augmentative communication apps open doors to communication for students. Students get excited to improve their communication skills and look forward to come back week after week.
By donating to this project, you will improve 70 students' ability to communicate, improve their articulation (their ability to speak sounds and be understood), expressive language as well as receptive language skills.
Students will be more motivated and willing to work and practice these vital skills that they need to become successful in life.
