This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from various social economic backgrounds. They range from low income families to homes where parents are trying their best to raise their children in a neighborhood that has gang related problems daily. There are students that don't have either parent and are either with a foster family or with a relative. Either way, they come to class eager to learn, which is why I wouldn't want anything more but to enhance their excitement for education through games and materials.
My Project
With 32 students in my classroom we are currently sharing 6 laptops. Most of my students do not have access to technology at home, therefore, my classroom is for the most part the only time they have the opportunity to use technology.
My students handle sharing these 6 laptops gracefully, but how wonderful would it be to add more?
Currently my students are loving typing out their essays in our writing unit. For Social Studies, they are researching the 4 California regions. During reading, they get to read or listen to their favorite stories online. They are having a blast learning how to use Power Point to present their Electricity and Magnetism projects.
To be able to give the opportunity that they can not at home is a vital part of being a teacher. Exposing and giving access to my students is what my students need to be able to be a productive and positive member of our society.
