My Students
My scholars on the West side of Chicago are hungry for college and career ready skills! One major skill is being able to use a computer in it's entirety. I need resources to facilitate mastery of this skill!
My students are amazing, intelligent, resilient, hard-working learners!
They learn with very little but some things are needed- Computers! In this day and age, it is unrealistic to NOT provide a 1-1 computer to student ratio. While this would not accomplish 1-1, it would allow every student to use a computer every day!
As a turnaround school, we are blessed to have an amazing staff and administration team ready to change lives. We completed year 1 last year and it was a success! Culture and climate was restored and student learning was off the charts! Now, they deserve to have the technology to practice on as they are forced to take the state PARCC assessment ON a computer!
My babies come from a low-income, high need part of Chicago. They deserve the best in education and that starts with the teachers. As a turnaround school, we start from scratch, so every item I receive is truly valued. Having computers for my students could change the trajectory of their educational careers!
My Project
Having a classroom set of chromebooks would allow my students to practice their computer skills EVERY day! From journal entries or writing, to practice assessments. It would also help lower the cost of supplies I am also tasked with providing. With work available on the computer, students can complete it and I can grade without disposable products!
Readying students to be computer literate is a small component of helping them become college and career ready. There are few jobs today that do not require some level of computer literacy. If a student doesn't use a computer early and often, they are already behind on a necessary 21st century skill.
By the end of the year, I hope my students can submit all work online and feel confident when asked to use a computer for either testing, writing, or any other task required with a computer!
By contributing to this project, you will allow an entire grade level of students, in a low-income community, to have the opportunity to become literate in a skill that will not only assist in their college hopes and dreams, but also allow them to be computer literate in a society that already demands it!
