My Students
My class right now is your typical high school classroom, pen and paper. I would like to be able to put different types of technology into my students' hands so that they will be able to compete for the best careers after graduation. They excel when given the opportunity to work outside of the box.
My students attend one of the smallest high schools in the county.
We are a rural school where for some students the only pieces of technology they come in contact with is here at school. Unfortunately, even though we are a Title 1 school, we don't have any money to be a true 1 to 1 school. I realize that one iPad is not a lot, but it is a start towards getting technology into the hands of the students. For a majority of my students the only technology they come in contact with on a daily basis is at school. Yes, some of them have smartphones, but there are quite a few that don’t have a cellphone at all, which means the only access to technology they have is at school. I am forced to prepare my students for the 21st century using 20th century technology.
My Project
Ideally I would like to improve classroom instruction and increase student learning and engagement by integrating more technology in my classroom. Students who are absent from class will no longer have to leave the classroom to make up missed work that is posted online. They would be able to use the classroom iPad to complete assignments as well as catch up on reading materials. Our new literature book adoptions have an online version, and for those students who are ESOL or auditory learners, they can use the iPad to log into their accounts and have their stories, poems, and etc. read aloud to them. This iPad will also be used to foster creativity with the students too. Students will be able to create movie trailers for some of the material we study in class using the iMovie app. The Dragon Dictation app will allow students who miss to class to read another classmate’s notes out loud, and the app will make a hard copy of everything the student says.
With the addition of an iPad into my classroom my students would be able to access apps that will reinforce skills that they may be lacking in.
The iPad will help me, as a teacher, create authentic and creative learning experiences for my students. Technology has become an integral part of education today, and I want to be able to give my students the experience of using as many different types of technology as I can before they graduate high school.
