My Students

In this digital age, technology is playing an ever increasing role in the lives of the youngest members of our society. My students need to have access to this type of technology to stay on the cutting edge of the digital era.

I am thrilled and excited to be starting a new year at a new school!

My biggest challenge right now is that I am starting over in a new grade level at a new school in an older classroom. Right now I have three student computers in my classroom to service my 24 students. I believe that it is essential for today's students to have access to technology as they are very much existing in a digital era. This will be my first year at a new school with a student population that ranges from Pre-Kindergarten through 4th grade. The school is in a very rural area several miles outside of city limits. There is not much around us besides a whole lot of desert! The socioeconomic status of most of the families at my school is in the lower middle class to lower class spectrum. We have an enrollment of approximately 600 students at our school. I look forward to updating this with more information as I better get to know my students and the school.

My Project

My students will use this iPad in conjunction with our three classroom computers to conduct research projects, participate in such activities as blogging and interacting with other students around our state and country, and learning how to effectively use apps to enhance and build their learning. They will also learn safe ways to use technology positively and creatively and to see technology as a tool for learning and not merely just a cool way to play games.

This donation will be a lifesaver in my classroom!

Currently, we do not have enough computers in the classroom to even allow a group of four to be working at one time. With even this one iPad, I can have three students working on the computers, with one or two more using the iPad to conduct research and complete assignments. The mobility of use with an iPad will also make it easy to integrate as the students will be able to move to any location within the room to use.
