My Students
It is extremely sad to say we are a Technology Magnet with little technology! I am trying to bring learning alive in our classroom through the use of the Internet, and countless applications. With this tablet, I will be able to access Common Core curriculum and Smarter Balance tools.
I have been teaching 6th grade English and History for over 19 years.
I have always tried to keep up with the shifts in education and curriculum. Now, I am trying to develop mastery of the Common Core standards and create lessons that are more aligned with the new standards and teaching practices. I have started to use Engage NY lessons that are available online to develop Common Core lessons and by having this tablet would allow me more access to those lessons. Our district just provided us a curriculum maps online and they leave us the flexible to select text that will best fit our students. Having this tablet would allow me to research and find appropriate complex text that will align with our pacing maps. I have found several resourceful websites to help create my lessons that ultimately will benefit my students achieve mastery of the standards.
My Project
The materials I am requesting are a Samsung Galaxy Note Pro with Bluetooth case. This will allow me more access to develop Common Core lessons and activities that are aligned with the new teaching methods. By utilizing new apps and websites, it will help me teach my students better ways of accessing the standards and curriculum. My students need as much exposure to technological devices to better prepare them for their future. Our school is looking into connecting tablets to LCD projectors to make learning interactive for the students.
ReadWorks in one particular website that I would be able to utilize more with the addition of this tablet. In teaching English and Social Studies, this tablet will effect almost all units, from Egypt to Rome, to reading poetry, by allowing me to project images, text, or videos to enhance any lesson.
Bringing technology into the classroom will open the world for my students.
It will motivate and encourage them to produce above and beyond the assignment. By allowing me to assess the Common Core materials and Smarter Balance information and tools, using this tablet, will only enhance my students learning experience, and better prepare them for the 21st century.
