This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Technology affects all areas of our life from how we communicate, to how we care for our bodies, to how we promote the arts. Our inner city elementary kids do not have access to technology in their homes like more affluent families. Their only exposure to technology is in the school environment.
My students are amazing fifth graders who deserve the very best!
They are fun, energetic and creative, and I love to showcase their spectacular talents. The school where I teach is considered "high poverty" so students do not have the same opportunities as those in other neighborhoods. In particular, we have limited access to the latest technology tools that more affluent schools have in abundance. Everyone qualifies for free lunch in the Title 1 program.
My Project
The interactivity of the Wii system along with the Just Dance game can give my students some fun and healthy experience with the performing art of dance. Ordinarily, dance lessons are not within the reach of the school or family's budget. This innovative technology makes learning dance moves fun. The added bonus of dance is the promotion of health education and a start along a path of healthy choices for many years to come. The Wii, paired with the Just Dance game, works all the major muscle groups including your back, arms, and legs. It is a great overall introduction to technology, health, and the art of dance.
My goal is to start my students along a life-long path of daily physical activity to promote healthy bodies and an appreciation of the arts to promote a creative mind.
Healthy choices always start with new experiences and knowledge. I want to give those opportunities to my kids who do not have the means to pursue hobbies and exercise of this level without your donation. Thank you, in advance, for your support of the arts and for the support of a healthy inner city student population.
