Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Teaching in the 21st century! Technology is everywhere, our kids are exposed to it at a very young age. Why not take advantage of it and use it learning?
I teach in a low income neighborhood where 80% of the population are non- English speakers.
My students are combinations of the lowest performing students in the whole Kindergarten level particularly in Reading and Math. I pull these kids from their regular classrooms everyday, 20 minutes for Reading and another 20 minutes for Math for interventions. I have up to 5 students per intervention group. I work with them in a small group. I give them the 1 to 1 attention and practice they may not get in their regular classroom.
My Project
My students will be able to use the ipod in so many ways. They will be able to learn the letters of the alphabet, their sounds and eventually read and spell words. They will also use the ipod in learning their numbers and actually use it every subject area. This type of technology is proven to increase student's engagement because of its multimedia capabilities. Students will enjoy the touch screen feature and feel at ease when using hundreds of "apple" applications-interactive activities. I can also use the ipod as a camera, record and edit videos, sound or voice notes for my students to use.
This project is very important to me as a 21st century teacher and also for my 21st century students.
I would like my students to take advantage of the countless capabilities of technology for their learning advantages. I would like to give them the opportunity to explore, research and discover things. Most importantly learn while having a great time!
