My Students

My students are full of energy and excitement for life and learning. My students are all different and unique in their learning styles and abilities, but each one is special to me.The students I teach come from a wide variety of situations.I teach students coming from very affluent families. Many of these students have a lot of support and encouragement at home and access to help, either from a parent or maybe an outside tutor. I also teach students on the opposite end of the spectrum. For some, their parent is working two jobs to try to make ends meet and doesn't come home in time to work with his or her child. Many have grandparents who have taken over the role as guardian.

It is my job as the teacher to make sure that each and every student gets the support and encouragement they need along with the tools needed to be successful.

Having students with such diverse backgrounds, make differentiated instruction crucial to the classroom. Please help me to provide the support my students need.

My Project

My students love to work with technology, and we want to create a collaborative classroom where learning happens through inquiry, discussion and creativity. My hope is that these Chromebooks will give them an opportunity to take the learning off the pages of the textbook and look for patterns throughout math, apply it to real-world situations and learn how to communicate their discoveries in an effective and creative way. Many math classes are setup as a lecture-only type of class, but this is not the most effective strategy for teaching middle school students.

Students need to interact with what they're learning and with each other.

Most importantly they need to learn to put into words the ideas and principles of mathematics. Implementing technology will give us the opportunity to investigate the patters that math is founded upon and discuss why the rules apply to each standard.
