I teach 6th grade in a math and science academy in a large city in Illinois. While the students at our school are 98% free breakfast and lunch, and the neighborhood is at poverty level, these children are a dynamic bunch who take advantage of the opportunities given to them.
From past grants my students have MAC laptops they use on a regular basis, and we have a document camera to display student work and other papers to ensure that directions are understood. My students have really taken to this new technological way of learning. However, to use the document camera and a MAC laptop for instruction, I must use a projector. The school only has one so when someone else needs to use it, my technology instruction goes black for the day.
My students are creating their own websites, doing research and writing papers on the MACs. The document camera is ready at a moment's notice to display information or clarify instruction. With our own projector we would always have the technology available to really have a classroom of the future.
Your generous donation will ensure that our lessons go on uninterrupted. My students will move on to high school with technology skills that can compete with their peers. Thank you for making my job easy too.
