This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are all African and Latino attending an empowerment high school in one of the poorest counties in NYC. Most of the students come from single parent homes where mom is the only parent. It's extremely important they learn about their history and culture. They watch a great deal of movies and TV, but unfortunately, very few of these programs have any substance to them. They are good kids who will go much further once they realize the value of a proper education. Unfortunately, their reading and critical thinking skills aren't where they should be and this hinders them. I think they will take learning more serious if it's made more fun and interesting to them.Using more technology will go a long way in helping me accomplish this goal.

My Project

I am requesting 30 pairs of Stereo School Headphones, Beats Power Beats, a Kindle Fire tablet, and an Apple iPad 3 for my students online class. Everfi provides free online courses to students in grades k-12. The headphones will allow them to take Financial Literacy courses such as the Vault and many others online.The Vault Understanding Money is an interactive course designed to introduce financial literacy skills early in a child’s cognitive development. Students will earn a certification upon completion of the curriculum, a representation of the important financial concepts they have mastered.The curriculum aligns with both state and national standards published by the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy.Vault is available to K-12 schools at no cost through public-private partnerships secured by EverFi. The pair of Beats will serve as a reward for the student who completes the six Everfi courses with the highest average..The iPad will provide greater flexibility in providing internet access when classroom laptops are broken causing a shortage.
