FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Long's classroom raised $507

My Students
I teach middle school science at a large Illinois elementary school. My students are from low-income families and are eligible for free lunch. As a teacher and lover of science, I want to instill my love for healthy living, discovery and inquiry in my students.
Because of drastic budget cuts, I am unable to have a technology center in my classroom.
I would like for my students to have access to the latest technology in order to develop their research skills. I generally use the overhead projector (a dinosaur in the technology industry) and a LCD projector. While I am able to reach all of my students at once with these two resources, my students are not able to explore, research, and develop their own technology skills.
My Project
My students will be able to conduct research on such topics as global warming and current events. My students will also be able to prepare research papers. While these Chromebooks do have limited storage space, they offer access to the Google Cloud, which has unlimited storage capacity. My students will be able to work in teams using these Chromebooks and complete assignments such as ecological succession and teenage obesity. They will be able to watch videos on The Badlands and Mount Rushmore to assist in writing their reports. My students will conduct a fact-finding web quest on the underground railroad (from the book The House of Dies Drear) and Edgar Allan Poe can now come to life as my students will be able to research his life while visiting the “Poe Library”. My students will be able to print their research assignments using the printer ink and showcase their creativity with the various colored papers.
There is still a “digital-divide” in America.
With your help I will be able to reduce that divide in my classroom. Using these Chromebook computers, my students will build life skills that will take them through college.
