Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
These students are very sweet but can come from rough home environments. The classroom is their safe place to be kids. These students love to create, build, learn, revise their thinking, share and so much more in our classroom. Most of our students come from Spanish speaking homes and live in small dwellings, with large families. They don't all have the support they need, so our most difficult task is to help each of them succeed and shine in their own way. Many of these students do not have access to technology at home and do not have many life experiences that others are so lucky to have. A majority of them struggle in the classroom academically. The dynamics of my class are very interesting because students range high to low academically, and some have learning disabilities. This is my school's 3rd year having a S.T.E.A.M Magnet Program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) on site and this project will allow us to go beyond the surface of these subjects. Due to lack of funding, we do not have the materials we need to support my students' learning goals and styles.
My Project
Ipad mini's will allow my students to access apps that will boost technology in our classroom. We have been so fortunate to receive Ozobots, Lego Boost and microphones for our classroom through Donors Choose. Now we need the Ipads to try out the apps that allow us to use them in a new way.
We are now a one to one Chromebook school, which is absolutely amazing but the Chromebooks do not have the app features we need to take our robotics to the next level.
My students learn and grow so much through the use of technology. I am so excited to see them flourish with some new technology.
