In my biology classes "T-R-Y IT!" is the motto. I continually challenge my students to try a new thought, a new technique, and even a new connection during our daily lessons.
My rural Alma mater is full of diversity: athletes from field to arena, FFA members, FCCLA leaders and gamers.
Students are involved in rodeos, car-building, shooting hoops, toe touches and flips, welding, art, and academic team competitors. We are Wampus Cats, a unique, mythical creature capable of grandeur accomplishments!
My Project
I love for my students to learn through a variety of means. They draw, color, label and explain. As a class, we watch Amoeba Sisters (plus others) on youtube. My biology students collaborate and communicate during hands-on investigations. What they do not have access to is technology at their fingertips. Most students do not have computers at home. We have extremely limited access at school. The library houses about ten (on a good day) working laptops with a population of nearly 400 high school students. I want them to experience the multitude of interactive available online. They need to learn how to research while learning biology topics. Despite a computer technology class being available, most students are at a loss outside of their CT class on how to create technology-based products.
The use of Chrome books will prepare my biology students for their technology-filled futures.
No matter if they attend college, trade school or whatever, Wampus Cats need to know how to navigate, interact, and create meaningful connections to life (Bio-).
