My Students

As a teacher at a diverse school where classrooms are full of students varying in language and academic backgrounds, I try to really get to know and connect with each student even if it means researching their native language or meeting their academic needs based on their intelligences and life successes.

My students are eager learners with lots of questions.

I listen with an open mind, ready to create activities that allow them to explore their curiosities! Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. As soon as they enter the classroom I focus on their ability to learn and grow. Many of them have little to no academic support at home due to work conflicts, language and other barriers. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can control their experience during the school day, and I always make sure it is packed full of fun, interactive and extendable learning.

My Project

I am requesting a projector mount for my classroom. Currently, our projectors are used on a small cart, which causes many issues in our classroom. For example, a covered chord has to run across the floor and no matter how I try to cover it and hide it, it often leads to trips and falls.

Having a projector mount, Apple TV, and speakers would allow my students to collaborate in ways they have not been able to do with our current classroom set up.

They could sit in different areas of the room and still be able to see the activity while interacting with one another.

With the Apple TV, I can wirelessly project videos, worksheets, games, and create many interactive lessons directly onto one of the whiteboards creating a more cost-effective "Smart Board". The students could present their knowledge in front of the class in a more engaging way!

Finally, I am requesting a set of bluetooth speakers to work wirelessly with the projector and Apple TV. Our projector's speakers are very quiet, and it is difficult for the students to hear what I am projecting. I believe that this new technology set up will revolutionize the way I present lessons, and I will be able to integrate technology more frequently into our lessons.
