My students are an inquisitive group of kids. They enjoy completing projects via technology. It has the power to transform mundane learning tasks into innovative projects. They have a thirst to access a myriad of information. Technology puts it at their fingertips!
I am a National Board Certified Teacher.
I frequently attend trainings for Common Core, Gifted strategies, and any other trainings that will directly impact my students. As part of the common core standards, students are expected to engage regularly with technology. Many trainings require the use of an laptop. Additionally, I regularly conduct Professional Development (P.D) both for the teachers at my school and teachers around the district. These P.D.'s are centered around various topics including the Common Core State Standards for both Math and English Language Arts. The professional development I conduct also reaches parents in workshops centered around the Common Core Standards.
My Project
I develop lessons with my grade level team that incorporate the Gifted Prompts of Depth and Complexity and the Common Core Standards. The lessons challenge my students to conduct research and synthesize information from videos, primary sources, and other text that allow them to think deeper into the subject matter. Some of the videos will require Adobe Flash (which isn't supported by IPads).
Also, teaching requires continuous learning and growing. I do online classes via PepperPD. The classes cover topics centered around the Common Core Standards. I need to type information, print worksheets, scan and upload responses. A laptop allows me to type with ease and connect to a printer to print and scan.
Finally, I develop PowerPoints for my students and for trainings I conduct. Topics include The Common Core Math Practices and Close Reading. To develop them, I need to load information via a USB port where I store much of my work. A laptop will facilitate the creation of presentations.
A laptop computer will allow me to create lessons and presentations for my colleagues and my students.
As part of the common core standards, students are expected to engage regularly with technology. They will use it to research information and create projects. I will use it to further my education and conduct trainings for other teachers.
