My Students
I start my day by greeting my students at the door with a smile and a hug. I want them to know that I care about them, and I want to give them a fun and loving place to learn. My goal is for my students to have a passion for learning and enjoy coming to school. I want them to aim high and reach for the stars.
I teach second grade in a Title I school, which means there are a high number of students on free and reduced lunch.
Students come from various backgrounds. Some of them are homeless, some live with their grandparents, and some live with one parent. I care about all my students, and I personally believe that if they are given love, attention, encouragement, and inspiration, they can become successful in anything. Often, students give up easily when they are faced with a challenging school task. Sometimes all they need is some encouragement. When I see my students achieve a challenging task, it just fills my heart and soul with joy. I love seeing their beautiful smiles and confidence go up.
My Project
I teach in a STEM school in which students use various technology to reinforce learning. Scholars often work on reading and math assignments on computers and iPads in the classroom. One thing I really enjoy about having assignments on the computer is that students can work at their own pace and all their assignments are differentiated. Students are able to read e-books, practice reading fluency, and work on comprehension skills on various reading websites. In addition, they are able to practice various math skills to be more proficient. My class is fortunate to have 10 iPads in the classroom, but we are in need of headphones so that students can work on math and reading assignments without disrupting their peers. We are also in need of an electric pencil sharpener so that we can have a set of pencils available during class time. Having pencils sharpened ahead of time will prevent class disruptions and help students stay focused. In my classroom, I also have leveled books to differentiate instruction for my students. To help students easily access books, I need book tubs to organize the books based by reading levels.
I have various centers set up in the classroom to differentiate math learning.
I have students work in small groups, play math games, as well as work on iPads. Having the headphones for the iPads will help keep the classroom environment quiet so that students can stay better focused on their individual assignments. Having an electric sharpener will be very useful as well, as I will be able to have a set of sharpened pencils available during class time to prevent class disruptions.
