My students need the tablets and the computer to access the Internet for various world culture projects that they will have to complete throughout the year. The cases and screen protectors are to protect the technology.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from the north side of Houston. Their households are mainly lower income. In addition to their normal daily struggles, they are now dealing with what Hurricane Harvey has done to their community. They are searching for ways to return to some form of normalcy after the storm. An already challenging situation has become even more so. These students are very limited in their exposure to the world outside of their neighborhood. The majority of my students are minorities and quite a few of them have been labeled special education in their elementary years, but they are fighters. They are learning that there is more to life than what they are currently exposed to in their neighborhood bubbles.
My students are special because they live in a community that does not often get access to opportunities, but that does not stop them from trying.
They have "can do" spirits and attitudes. They constantly challenge me to bring MY "A" game. They expect to come to school to learn and they know that this is where their futures begin. The classroom is our place of refuge and we treat it as such.
My Project
My students do not have access to a full time library within the school. We do not have a technology center or media center. Only some of them have computer (technology) as an elective class, and not everyone has internet at home.
This computer station, equipped with a laptop and tablets, within my classroom will allow ALL of my students to have regular access to technology.
They will be able to complete homework and classwork from classroom assignments. They will also be able to come at designated times within the school day to work on assignments for other classes. It is a win on so many levels.
