The students in my class are in a dual immersion program where they are learning both English and Chinese each day. They work very hard each day. When my second grade students do Math and L.A. Stations, they always look forward to using technology to enhance their learning. Our challenge is that we have a minimal amount of technology in our classroom with a large amount of students. By having technology readily available, they can be better prepared for college and their careers.
My students are eager to learn.
They come from a variety of backgrounds and have differentiated academic and behavioral needs. Some students are learning English as a second language, while others need advanced activities to help enhance their education. Although they are on different academic levels, they all share a love for learning and using technology, especially when used with reading and math.
My Project
My second graders would use the Chromebooks during daily reading and math stations. Some activities I would like to have them use in reading include: writing stories and publishing them, practicing phonics skills, building fluency, reading comprehension, and decoding skills. Some math station activities would help improve fluency, telling time, graphing, and problem solving skills involving money. This would lead to real world application based on prior experiences. There are several applications such as Google Slides and Nearpods that would help ELL students enrich their vocabulary through visual means.
I want my students to become independent thinkers and find joy in learning without even realizing they are doing so.
Using technology is a great means to accomplish academic goals. Many students don't have technology at home, but school can provide opportunities to use it. Your donation will allow them to work in small groups and through collaboration create memorable projects.
