My students need an iPad and a laptop for incentive based activities and an entertainment system with a TV and gaming systems in the classroom to promote motivation for positive behavior.

My Students
Our school was severely damaged by Hurricane Harvey, so now we are housed at our local high school. Even before the hurricane, our students faced many adversities because of their low socioeconomic status. Many of my students' families had a difficult time meeting their daily basic needs. Despite my students' obstacles, they are great kids and still strive to be successful. Their efforts are many times thwarted because we don't have a variety of instructional materials available to us. Even with the lack of basic supplies, we still strive to be the best. Hurricane Harvey hit us, but it didn't kill us.
My Project
With everything my students have gone through with Hurricane Harvey, they need a fun outlet at school. I would like to start a fun after school program that rewards students who stay after school for tutoring and show positive behavior in class. I have had a hard time getting students to come to tutorials. By offering the opportunity to play video games (Xbox and Ps4) as a reward I hope this will motivate the students to come! I teach students where behavior is a huge issue and being displaced from our campus has presented some additional challenges for my students and I'm trying to be creative in addressing these issues. I'll use the light box to display positive weekly quotes. My students lack motivation and currently I do not have resources necessary to drive them towards positive behavior so all my students will be successful academically and socially in the classroom.
My goal is to create an entertainment activity center in the classroom that will motivate my students to participate and interact positively with their peers and myself.
I envision that I'll be able to use the camera to capture students working and examples of their work immediately being displayed after they are created. The cameras will also help my English Language Learners (ELL) express themselves through pictures. The laptop and iPad will have a dual purpose because I will also be able to integrate the technology into my math curriculum. Also in the project is extra controllers and headsets for the students to use for multiplayer use. Other items requested include board games, art supplies and books to go in the activity center. Teaching my students that keeping a positive attitude and working hard will pay off is a huge key! Your generous donations will help motivate students to learn!
