My Students
My students are an exceptional group of Kindergarten, First and Second graders who receive learning support services. They receive direct instruction in small groups inside and outside of the general education classroom daily.
My students follow a rigorous direct instruction schedule and may miss out on engaging Math and Science activities within the general education setting.
As their Special Education teacher, I would like to supplement my students educational experiences by embedding relevant and engaging computer based Math and Science breaks into their direct instruction program. However, funding shortages within our district make it difficult to purchase tablets that my students can utilize during their direct instruction periods.
My Project
My students need tablets to quickly access STEM related games offered through educational apps.
Educational apps for tablet computers are easy to use, making them perfect for children, especially those with attention deficits.
Tablet apps such as Peter Pigs Money Coin Counter, Preschool Math Games for Kids and Splash Math will provide my students the opportunity to practice counting and increase their number, shape, and color recognition skills. Apps such as PBS Kids: Play and Learn Science, Building Construction Puzzle and Build a Robot will give my students early engineering and science exploration experiences.
A tablet's touch-screen capability, simple interface, and portability make it great for reinforcing and supplementing traditional classroom learning.
