My Students

Do you remember the days of having a teacher teach from the overhead from unclear copies? Have you ever sat through a presentation where the presenter did not have a wireless clicker making them tied to the computer? Neither are best for our students, but that's what they get due to lack of technology.

My students are in kindergarten through fifth grade and are curious about the world around them.

They are natural scientists, always asking questions. They attend a K-5 elementary school that is racially, culturally and economically diverse. We have a high English as a second language population and have 25% of our population in every demographic category. Our students get to learn so much from each other since they are so diverse. The ones who have attended our school since kindergarten don't realize how lucky they are to know so many different people; they take it for granted.

My Project

2 years ago, our district installed projectors in each classroom, but they did not provide document cameras or wireless presenters. This means we have the ability to project images and documents from our computer but have to be at the computer to switch between the pages taking me away from my students, and I cannot provide examples that can be worked without using the outdated overhead projector. The resources I am requesting will solve these problems and provide new learning opportunities for my students as well. With the wireless presenter, I can be anywhere I am needed in the classroom and continue instructing with the aid of the computer and projector. The webcam I am requesting will serve as my document camera but can also allow video conferencing. It will allow me to provide examples of anything for my students that are clear and look like what they have in front of them. If I am teaching a lab that has a demonstration portion, the webcam will allow everyone to see it.

My project will streamline my instruction making it more clear and effective completing what my district started 2 years ago.

Science is a hands-on subject that needs clear examples of many things that just cannot be see on an overhead or computer. Also, my students need to have exposure to a variety of technology since we are in a day and age where technology use continues to expand.
