My Students
My students are funny, smart, charismatic, curious, polite kids that learn how to be responsible little leaders each day we spend together. They see school as an opportunity to be themselves while learning but more importantly, a place they feel special and loved. My kids come from low income/high poverty and don't have much.
During the Louisiana flooding, we lost computers, games, supplies, furniture but more importantly, we lost our home.
The excitement these items would bring for my kids would truly melt my heart! I want my kids to know that it doesn't matter how many struggles you may face or how impossible things may seem, don't ever give up!
My Project
Having the tablets in our classroom will ensure a variety of learning styles for the students. My 2nd graders are ecstatic to work on the 10 year old computers we had in our classroom. Due to the flooding in Louisiana, our school really suffered. The computers in our classroom didn't stand a chance against the 2 feet of water. Most of my students do not have access to any sort of technology in their homes. Everyone's favorite center time was always the computers. The tablets are sure to be a huge asset in our classroom.
My project, will not only get my students motivated to learn but it will ensure we become the most tech savy guros of 2nd grade!
These tablets will be used for many different things. I will be able to download apps for various math & reading practice skills for centers, which would allow me to have activities for both my highest performing and most struggling students. Students will be rewarded with "Tab Time" during our writing lessons. Instead of writing their thoughts down on paper, they can use the tablet. I have so many ideas on how to incorporate the tablets in our every day learning that my students are sure to love if my project is funded! These kids deserve to get excited about learning again!
