Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are in need of one iPad mini to use daily in our classroom in order to assist students in the areas of language arts, math, and communication.

I teach a combo class of kindergarten, first, and second graders.

My classroom is specialized to the special needs of children with severe intellectual and social challenges, and focuses on improving early academic skills while addressing life functional skills.

My Project

The iPad applications will provide differentiated instruction for the students who are at varying levels of communication, and academics. Some useful applications include Accelerated Reader for comprehension, along with the application Super Duper which contains activities for comprehension. The iPad applications will provide differentiated instruction in the areas of mathematics such as number recognition, skip counting, patterning, addition, and subtraction. The iPad application White Board will provide activities to guide fine motor practice as well as writing practice. In addition applications such as Grace, Picture Exchange Communication System, Prologue To Go will help children express their wants and needs within the classroom.

Students with exceptional needs benefit from instruction using a variety of strategies.

The increased use of iPads will allow me to increase the use of visual reminders and reduce verbal cuing, resulting in a quieter more focused classroom environment.
