Tech Savvy Scientists Record, and Collect Data on Tablets.
My students need on the go technology, such as a tablet. Five tablets will increase our space in the science lab by getting rid of the old bulky desktop computers.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from diverse backgrounds; some of them come with physical and emotional issues. About 96% of the students at my campus receive free lunch. We are a Hispanic dominant population, with English as a second language. We are a leader in me school, and we believe every student has a little leader inside of them.
Hurricane Harvey brought devastation to our city, and some of these scholars are slowly getting back to normal.
Our campus faces a lot of challenges this school year, and I would love to bring technology on the go for my little scientists. Shearn is located in the heart of a beautiful community. The downfall is that our building is old and need some technology updates.
My Project
In this day in age, our students are so in tune with technology. When bringing such materials into the classroom, they become happy and excited to explore and connect with given activities; they seem to retain material much quicker and easily. Having a set of tablets will allow for different structures of learning in my classroom. Being able to have a digital portfolio is very informational and beneficial not only for my students, but for myself. Having access to a camera to take video, and record their own data with their tablets is a huge learning advantage for my scholars. The tablets will be used to enhance the learning experience in my lab. My students would be able to look up vocabulary words, do research on materials, and experiments, collecting data, map out experiments. Our classroom is not yet at the level technologically to meet their needs as learners. This grant will help me close that gap just a little bit more.
