Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school has over 90% of at risk students with a reading performance of at least one-two years behind their current grade level. My students are socially disadvantaged children who are hungry for learning and have the aptitude to succeed, if given a chance. My students are joyous kids that are excited to come to school, but lack the resources needed to do so. Some of my students are glad to just receive a daily breakfast/lunch and get away from dysfunctional households.
Society fulfillment of technology professionals is the key to the future.
I've noticed my students in first grade are aware of technology, but not to the extent of learning from it. I love that they are excited to learn, however, most of my students do not have technology in their homes and no transportation to the local library.
My Project
The objective of the Tech Reading Warrior’s project is to help my first graders with poor reading skills, learn to read at grade level and increase their reading speed, comprehension, as well as their reading attention span.
Studies have shown small groups of students with poor reading skills utilizing project-based activities; see dramatic improvements in their reading skills.
The tablet and printer will make a difference in my students' lives by giving them the resources to research the literacy and math components that will make them successful. The Tech Reading Warriors project will provide students with access to several assistant reading systems, along with guided tutorials to support student reading process.
I have seen measurable success in other grade levels. I have taught and now seeking to explore this opportunity with my first graders.
I deeply appreciate you taking an interest in helping my students develop their reading skills.
