This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Bill Gates stated, "I think it's fair to say that computers have become the most empowering tool we've ever created. They're tools of communication, they're tools of creativity, and they can be shaped by their user." This is the opportunity that I want to be able to provide for my students.

My students inspire me every day.

Although they come from low-income families struggling to get by, they still come into our classroom each day, smiling and eager to learn. Many of them don't have any type of technology in their homes, and one computer in the classroom, which is not portable, is not enough to adequately serve all of these students. My students are eager to access information and learn on their own. They love to read independently, solve math problems, learn about the world around them, and conduct science experiments. I want to be able to provide them with an iPad, so this new creativity can be done with just a tap of a finger.

My Project

I am requesting an iPad to help me bring to my students not only technology but content knowledge and development as well. There are so many programs and applications to help my students cultivate their reading skills and comprehension such as Starfall and Storypanda Books. For math and concept skills, I can download Bugs and Numbers and IXL Math Practice, which will track their progress and provide them feedback on how to correctly answer the problem if they get it wrong. I plan to incorporate this iPad when students are working in various stations around the room and I will be able to target students' specific needs. I would also love to utilize the iPad when teaching a whole-class lesson to project an image on the board of something that we are learning. This is an important teaching point when the majority of my students are English Language Learners and vocabulary knowledge becomes an obstacle to their learning.

Donating to this project would create a new passion in my students for technology and learning.

Their lives consist of many hardships, and they're constantly faced with the harsh realities of things they can't have, so having access to such an amazing technological learning tool would really mean the world to them. It will both enrich their learning and show them that there are many people who believe in them. Please donate and help provide this opportunity to children who really deserve it!
