Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In today's world, it is important to be able to work with the latest tech. Every day in my classroom I use technology, having the students show their work under the Elmo, but more often than not, the Elmo ends up not working or losing time by having the students move their work under the Elmo.

My students come from low income families.

Most of them know about smart phones, but use their parents' smart phone to play games or to talk on the phone with family. For some of these students the only technology they deal with is the technology in school. Sometimes, even dealing with a computer is a new experience to these students, and they enjoy the days that we are able to go to the computer lab. In today's world technology is in everything from paying at a store, to ordering goods online, or even communicating. It is important to set our students up for success in life, and expose them to different technologies in life.

My Project

There are a plethora of different uses in the classrooms for iPod touch devices. In science they will be able to use the iPods to take pictures of their long term investigations to add into their notebooks. Being able to search for information in the palm of their hand rather than having to stop what they are doing in order to find out information. In Language Arts, it opens their minds to the possibilities of presenting information. Creating a video, a rap, a photo essay, using an app to access information, the possibilities are endless. Connecting the iPods to my MacBook takes the day of having to move their work under the Elmo and faulty Elmo machines in the past and saves time for more important avenues. My English Language Learners can use Google Translate to help them understand the meaning of words and work effortlessly throughout the day.

By having these iPod touch devices in the classroom, it will open my students' eyes to different ways to express their creativity, and by allowing them to handle new technology.

It's important for students to see technology as a tool for work, and not just a form of entertainment. As a teacher, my goal is to prepare my students for life, and in our fast pace world, being tech savvy is a skill that every person will eventually need.
