Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students love to learn, they thrive when developing and applying new skills, and they are resilient. We are an urban, low-income district, and the majority of our students come from hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home.

Our library makerspace provides opportunities for students to engage in hands-on discovery, invention, and understanding, as they apply and investigate scientific concepts and skills, address real-life problems with creative thinking, and use technology in innovative ways to solve problems.

A new iPad for our Makerspace will be used by students in so many ways - they can learn to code and program our robots, they can create designs for our 3D printer, they can make green screen videos to share their learning, they can use our Novel Effect subscription to listen to sound effects as they read aloud -- and so much more!

Innovative learning opportunities motivate and engage students. They learn to collaborate and communicate, to persevere towards a challenging goal, to take risks and continually revise their thinking, and learn how to use technology to solve problems.

Our amazing elementary complex library serves 2000+ students in four schools, and as I continue to cultivate it into a 21st century library media center and learning hub where students can collaborate and learn, I am constantly working to update the materials and resources that students have access to!
