This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a school filled with students and families who speak primarily Spanish, I have to not only help them acquire the language but teach them everything they will need to know to be successful in third grade and beyond. Learning English as a second language is no easy task. I have discovered through my work with my students that providing a language rich environment that not only immerses them in the language they are trying to learn, but is also inviting and engaging is key to their success.
Teaching reading is my passion and I get to see that same passion come out in my students when they cozy up with a book they love.
With so many battles they have to fight with learning a new language, I want to make sure they have the tools they need to pick up English as easily and quickly as possible. They are all passionate and driven learners and I hope to grow their potential as big as their personalities this year.
My Project
With technologies great and increasing presence in our lives it only makes sense to have mobile technology in the classroom. Technology helps the teachers prepare students for the real world environment. As our nation becomes increasingly more technology-dependent, it becomes even more necessary that to be successful citizens, students must learn to be tech-savvy.
Yet, because of funding, there are some schools that are delaying students from this imminent future of using technology in the classroom as the valuable learning tool it is.
My students are diverse when it comes to learning. Integrating technology into the classroom is definitely a great way to reach diversity in learning styles. Integrating technology in education everyday helps students stay engaged. Today’s students love technology so they are sure to be interested in learning if they can use the tools they love.
Your support will go towards helping kids become lovers of books and reading through the myON website. Here they can choose from over 5,000 titles. myON is an award-winning personalized literacy environment that incorporates:
A state-of-the art learning platform
Enhanced digital reading content
The Lexile® Framework
Cutting-edge literacy tools
Embedded metrics to monitor activity and growth
These Chromebooks will also be used by the students to get started creating their own books. They can type the words, scan or draw their illustrations, and publish books to show their parents. I ask for your help in making students become more responsible. Technology helps students take more control over their own learning. They learn how to make their own decisions and actually think for themselves.
