This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with a wonderful group of diverse children who love learning and adventure. They have a thirst for knowledge and crave any new avenues of learning. They enjoy being challenged and working towards goals. They have worked hard in the areas of Math and English. They have a love of technology, but have limited access to it. I am working hard to provide my children with everything possible to enhance their learning.
Kids have been using iPads and smartphones for years and understand the touchscreen technology, cameras and video.
The appeal of the iPad to K-12 students is obvious: They’re much easier to take to, and use in, class than a laptop. They’re lightweight and start up instantly. Longer battery life means that students don’t have to worry about carrying a charger with them. When classrooms don’t implement what has now become “everyday” technology, we’re doing students a disservice. I am hoping to get at least 2 kindle fire HD or IPADs for my class. Please help!
My Project
The use of a Kindle Fire (with protective case) is a daily activity that should be available in my classroom for my students to succeed in reading. Moreover, the arrival of digital text in a mobile reader like the Kindle means that that works of literature could be delivered to students almost anywhere, not just when they got their turn on in the once-a-week class in the computer lab. And for students, the ability to manipulate the text's font size means that students with a wide variety of learning and perceptual difficulties can now scan and digest the text itself more easily. It allows interaction with text and educational gains on the students' level. It will give them access to educational applications that they are unable to use on a daily basis. Any educational resource you can imagine providing students that involves video or audio, or that has an advanced interactive interface requiring a touch screen can be distributed on the Kindle Fire HD.
We have access to a wonderful tool called Imagine learning but need an HD Kindle to utilize it.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand. Plus, in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!
