My Students
This group is positively one of the most resilient groups of kids I've worked with in all my years of being an educator. Living in rural parts on our island in Hawaii, my kids are able to live without the luxuries of working facilities, functioning equipment, and a sufficient amount of technology. At our Title I school, my kids are faced with financial challenges at a young age. They "make do" with what they are given and rarely do they complain about the condition of the facilities and/or equipment. My class has the potential to motivate and inspire students through exercise and physical fitness and is one of the few classes that promotes movement throughout the entire period!
My Project
Physical education is about providing students with a dynamic experience in motor skill development, movement, cognitive concepts, responsible social behavior, and physical fitness. My students deserve the best opportunities to thrive in my P.E. class so that their perceived confidence is nurtured for growth. Cooperative learning activities provide my students with that opportunity to develop responsible social behavior and to build class unity.
I would love to have my students use the parachutes to engage in cooperative learning fitness.
There are so many benefits from teaching teamwork and collaboration in P.E. that extend beyond the traditional team sports. I'm looking to utilize the parachutes and over-sized soccer balls to make a fun activity that will help my students learn the importance of working together to accomplish something. I currently have an old parachute that is ripped and torn, but if I had at least 3 or 4, I would be able to do so much more with my students. Inclusion is important to me, and with the over sized soccer ball I would be able to include all students in the activity no matter what skill level they feel they are at.
I'm looking to provide an innovative, fun, and cooperative lesson with this equipment so that my students learn the importance of working together as a team.
